About Us

Who Are We?

We’re Will and Georgie – two Londoners with itchy feet and insatiable appetites!

After 11 years of running the rat race, while dreaming of living abroad and travelling the world, we decided it was now or never, so, in August 2017, we left our jobs, packed our bags, and bought a one-way ticket to Bangkok – one of the foodie capitals of the world.

Seven months on (and counting), and perhaps a pound or two heavier, we’re continuously discovering the endless number of great eateries around this awesome city; from £1 street food stalls to higher priced restaurants with traditional Thai and international dishes on offer. We’re also making the most of Bangkok’s connections and visiting other countries and cities, and sampling their own culinary delights.

So far, we’ve been lucky to have a steady stream of visitors from home and we’ve loved taking them to eat with the locals – something they’ve all really appreciated! Food is such a big part of our lives and it’s a huge part of getting to know a country and its culture, so we’re sure you’ll agree that no matter how great your holidays are, they always seem to be that bit better with some trustworthy tips from the locals…

What is We Asked a Local?

We Asked a Local is a blog, fuelled by our own appetite for discovery, designed to help you track down the best places to eat and drink in cities around the world, starting in Bangkok. We’ve done the hard part for you; asking those who know their city best, where you need, must, should go before you leave, and what to try when you’re there. We want to help you avoid the tourist traps and go straight to the good stuff.

Thailand is known as the Land of Smiles, filled with friendly and hospitable locals, who love food. With an almost infinite number of street food spots and new restaurants opening up daily, recommendations from locals are a must. We’ve been getting to know the Bangkok residents, both Thai and expats, to uncover the best food districts, must-try dishes, and lesser known restaurants and bars. We’ll follow their advice – go where they say, and eat as they do – and each month we’ll give you a full roundup of recommendations. Sure, it’s a tough job…

We hope you enjoy discovering these new places with us; we’d love to know what you think of them, so be sure to get in touch.
